
The Venue
This is usually one of the main decisions when organising any function or event. You want something special and memorable but sometimes you can be surprised by how much your dream venue can cost. If you already have a good idea of the type of venue you would like to hold your celebration in have you thought about the number of people you are wanting to invite? The number of guests you are proposing to invite can sometimes affect the number of venue choices available to you. If you want to hold a charity event, you will probably want a venue that holds a large number of people so that you have a greater opportunity to raise money but not all function rooms can hold or cater for hundreds of people. If you are celebrating a family occasion, you might want something more intimate. You also need to think about the type of reception you will be holding. Some venues can hold more people if you are planning a buffet reception but a sit down dinner will limit numbers. If most of your guests live in another town than the one where your celebration is being held, you need to think about availability of hotel rooms, B&Bs etc. This can increase your costs if you intend to pay for some of the guests to stay overnight and will increase the cost for your guests if they have to stay overnight or if they have to arrange long distance taxis etc.
